About
Background, education, and technical expertise
I am Amirbek Akhrorov, a development economist and data analyst based in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. My work sits at the intersection of economic research, data analysis, and policy design -- bridging the gap between quantitative evidence and development outcomes in Central Asia.
With experience spanning government budget analysis at the Ministry of Finance, financial inclusion innovation at AloqaBank, and digitalization consulting at TUNE Consulting, I bring a multi-sector perspective to every analytical challenge. My research covers fiscal policy, agricultural reform, e-governance, and financial inclusion across the region.
I am currently pursuing a Master of Economics and Data Science at New Uzbekistan University, where my graduation work focuses on the effective use of state budget funds in times of economic crises.
Why Development Economics
My path to development economics was not theoretical — it was experiential. At the Ministry of Finance, I saw how budget allocation decisions made in conference rooms in Tashkent rippled outward to affect irrigation systems in Karakalpakstan and school enrollment in Surkhandarya. That connection between fiscal policy and human outcomes is what drives my work every day.
At AloqaBank, I worked with borrowers who were creditworthy but invisible to traditional scoring systems — small business owners, women entrepreneurs, informal sector workers. Building an enhanced credit scoring model that could see them taught me that financial inclusion is not just a policy goal; it is a matter of economic justice — the kind of challenge that institutions like the World Bank, UNDP, and ADB tackle at scale.
Central Asia is at a critical inflection point. Uzbekistan's post-2017 reforms — from cotton sector liberalization to banking modernization — represent one of the most ambitious economic transformation programs in the post-Soviet space. I want to help shape this transition, bringing both my technical skills and my first-hand understanding of the region's complexities to wherever the impact is greatest.
“I don't want to study development from the outside. I want to build the analytical tools that help policymakers make better decisions for the people who need them most.”
